Mozart in the Bar is a free, pop up concert series that features great works of classical chamber music in bars. The concept was born out of a desire to take this beautiful art form out of the concert hall and into alternate, less traditional venues, your favorite bars! Only around 30-40 minutes long, the concerts feature many different composers ranging from Handel to Bartok to Tchaikovsky and, of course, Mozart. The number of musicians and instrumentation also varies; a string quartet one concert, a duo the next, a trio, and sometimes a sextet (let me tell you, cramming six musicians in the front of a tiny bar full of people is an experience all on its own!). Mozart in the Bar is designed to bring classical music out into normal life and provide a short but beautiful experience that requires no extra effort from the audience except a cocktail or two and some attentive ears. Wagner and whiskey, Brahms and bourbon, Mozart and a manhattan? Yess.

Lydia Umlauf, a classically trained violinist/violist and the founder of Mozart in the Bar, has always loved performing the wide range of classical repertoire in chamber music groups but also loves socializing/drinking in bars...combining the two seemed logical. Stay tuned for the next concert!
